£20k for best student idea to reduce building carbon emissions

Background
The Mayor’s Low Carbon Prize is provided by the Mayor of London’s Office and administered by the Greater London Authority (GLA). The Prize rewards innovations or inventions which reduce carbon emissions from buildings. The awards are sponsored by Siemens.

Objectives of the Scheme
The awards honour original ideas that contribute towards reducing direct CO2 emissions from London’s built environment.

Available Funding/Support
Winning ideas will receive prize money of up to £20,000 to use to develop a project, and expert mentoring from an industry leader.

Who Can Apply
Entry is only open to students living in London and registered at a London College University in 2013.

Application deadline: midday 17 May 2013 (this is an annual prize).

Applicants must provide:

  • proof of student registration;
  • evidence of the support of their institution (both to administer funds and to ensure appropriate academic support to see the project to completion); and
  • a budget (approved by their institution).
  • Winners will be notified by phone by 6 June at the latest.
